More Time at the Beach
19 April 2015
After Christmas in San Diego we had no trips planned at all. Fortunately our friend Jim came to visit from Sydney and so we went to Sorrento for the weekend.

We were lucky with the weather, so we all got to improve on our tans before Mardi Gras. We swam at both the bay and ocean beaches. On Saturday our friend Tatts drove down from Melbourne to join us for the day.

Two weeks later was Mardi Gras in Sydney. We had not been to the main party for several years, and this year we were invited to Beau’s housewarming on the same day, so we flew to Sydney for the weekend.
Beau’s and Simon’s apartment overlooked the parade, so we had a good view during their housewarming drinks. There was quite a crowd of both locals and overseas visitors at the drinks and we met a few new people. It was a short walk from there to the main party.

We saw a few of the featured performers, Jessica Mauboy and Danni Minogue, and found plenty of familiar faces to dance with, including some friends from San Francisco whom we had seen a week earlier when they visited Melbourne on an Atlantis cruise. We didn’t stay particularly late, so we were up the next day for the Laneway recovery and to go out again Sunday night which was a lot of fun. Fortunately it was the Labour Day long weekend in Melbourne.

On the way home from the airport, our car passed the 100,000 km mark (Jay was driving when I took this blurry photo). It has been trouble-free, but as its 10th birthday approaches we decided to have another go at looking at cars. We have done a few test-drives of small or medium SUVs.
The week after Mardi Gras was the new Arnold Classic Australia and expo. It was being put on my the owner of the gym we go to, Tony Doherty, so we trained alongside a few of the pros who were visiting for the show such as Justin Compton and Ben Pakulski.

We had reasonable seats for the evening show; not as good as previously because the crowd was so much larger this year. The Expo was also incredibly crowded. We went to the amateur prejudging as well to see my trainer Scott and a few other guys we knew from the gym who were competing in the amateur divisions.
The Easter long weekend fell just after my birthday this year, so we went away to Noosa for a short birthday break. The forecast was for thunderstorms for the five days we were there, but the weather was actually sunny and warm except for the first day. The water was also very warm.

We went swimming at Alexandria Bay and also drove to Peregian Beach to see what it was like. It was crowded because of school holidays, but the place where we stayed was not too noisy or overrun with children.

Since returning home we have seen the work commence on the foundations for the building next door. The builders took the week after Easter off, but they have now done most of the drilling holes for concrete foundations. It looks like we might finally have some shade of our West-facing wall by next Summer.

The days are getting short again and the tans are fading, so we are keeping our spirits up by making some plans to go away in August. Meanwhile we have the building works next door (as well as the two other new apartment buildings under construction in our street) to keep us entertained.
