Before 1996

skiing

Winter 1989. I went skiing for the first time in 1989. Here are David Smith and Sarah Jowett (now married) at either end, with me and Jen between. I am doing very well not to fall over just standing for the picture; the others are all good skiers. We are standing on Bourke Street at
Mount Buller.

October 29th, 1994. It was Jen Anderson's 25th birthday so we had a surprise dinner at a restaurant in South Melbourne called "
The Isthmus of Kra". It was Thai food. Jen is shown here with Matt Croxford, her SO. Jen and I were in the same year in Medicine. Matt was a year ahead, and is in the surgical training program.

September 1994. This is a picture of Ross and Belinda Carne at Barwon Heads, near
Melbourne. I was visiting them for the weekend and we went to the beach. September is early spring in Australia, hence the warm clothes. Ross is demonstrating how not to kick a footy.

hat

May 28th, 1995. I took my cousin Elizabeth, who was over from Perth for the week, down to the Esplanade at St Kilda to look at the Sunday market there. We tried on these hats at one of the stalls. I didn't buy it. My T-shirt says "Budding Doctors"; it is an old Med Students Society T-shirt.

August 4th, 1993. This was taken at the Eastern Beach playground in
Geelong, while we were on rotation to the Geelong Hospital. During our clinical training in Medicine at the University of Melbourne we are divided into groups of six to eight. This was my group. From left to right (with specialization) we are: Andrew Whan (Radiology), Daniela Micheletto (Public Health), Scott Mackie (Surgery), Dishan Chandrasekhara (Anaesthetics), Matthew Snape (Paediatrics), Ross Carne (Neurology) and me. Andrew and Dani got married in January 1996. The thing we are on is a train made of concrete.

katatjuta

December 4, 1993. I am sitting on a small rock between two parts of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), an incredibly huge rock formation near
Uluru (Ayres Rock). It was very hot but the following day when I climbed Uluru it rained.
