2001 Summary

22 January 2001: I decided to take some pictures of
St Vincent's as I was finishing work there and not likely to be back for two years or more. This is the "Inpatient Services Building" also known as the new hospital. It opened in September 1995; I was working in casualty that week. The hospital has about 300 beds, 10 theatres and the Anaesthetic Department does about 10,000 cases per year.

3 March 2001: Ken, Robert and I went to
Mardi Gras and were in the group "Brides of Mardi Gras" in the parade. Ken is on the left with the purple hair, I'm in the middle and Robert is on the right. It was a lot of fun but I can't recommend doing the parade in heels. The previous time I marched in 1999 was a lot more comfortable. For more photos from the trip, see the Mardi Gras 2001 page.

2 May 2001: To fill in the time between finishing at St Vincent's and moving to San Francisco I did a locum job in Bendigo, about 150 km North of Melbourne. Everyone was very friendly at both the Base Hospital and at the Mount Alvernia Hospital and I enjoyed working there. I wasn't really asleep in this photo, it was just that the laparoscopically-assisted vaginal hysterectomy had taken rather longer than I had hoped.

16 June 2001: Robert had gone to London for work from April and I went to visit in June. Here I am in the new courtyard of the British Museum. There are more photos from the trip on
a separate page.

I arrived in San Francisco on July 25th. Robert followed on August 4th. We had arranged to rent the house of a friend who had moved to Los Angeles for work. The house has great views of San Francisco to the North; Robert took this picture on the balcony.
